School Food and Wellness Policy

Soleil Academy is committed to the optimal development of every scholar.  Soleil believes that for scholars to have the opportunity to achieve personal, academic, developmental and social success, we need to create positive, safe and health-promoting learning environments at every level, in every setting, throughout the school year.

The School Food and Wellness policy outlines Soleil’s approach to ensuring environments and opportunities for all scholars to practice healthy eating and physical activity behaviors throughout the school day, which will promote a healthy lifestyle.  Specifically, this policy establishes goals and procedures to ensure:

  • Scholars at Soleil have access to a variety of healthy foods throughout the school day - both through reimbursable school meals and other foods available throughout the school campus - in accordance with federal and state nutrition standards;

  • To the maximum extent possible, Soleil participates in available federally reimbursable school meal programs, including the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Afterschool Meal Supplements, and Seamless Summer Feeding Option;

  • Scholars have opportunities to be physically active throughout the school day;

  • Soleil promotes nutrition, physical activity, and other activities that encourage scholar wellness;

  • Soleil’s nutrition education and physical education programs are consistent with the expectations established in the state’s curriculum frameworks and content standards and, as appropriate, shall be integrated into other academic subjects such as advisory;

  • Stakeholders including but not limited to scholars, parents, teachers, school, administrators, office staff and other interested community members are engaged in supporting Soleil in creating continuity and other settings for scholars and staff to practice lifelong healthy habits; and

  • Soleil will establish and maintain an infrastructure for management, oversight, implementation, communication about, and monitoring of the policy and its established goals and objectives.

This policy applies to all scholars, staff.

All stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the development, review, update, and implementation of the Local School Wellness Policy. Please contact the school office for more details.

Universal Benefits Application

At Soleil Academy, every family plays an important role in supporting our school community and one of the simplest ways to make a big impact is by completing the Universal Benefits Application (UBA) each year.

Although all scholars at Soleil Academy receive free meals through California’s Universal Meal Program, completing the UBA remains essential. The information collected helps determine Soleil Academy’s eligibility for critical state and federal funding that supports programs such as academic enrichment, wellness initiatives, and additional classroom resources.

In addition, by submitting the UBA, families may also become eligible for other benefits such as Sun Bucks, a California program that provides additional food assistance to qualifying households.

Completing the application is confidential, quick, and vital to ensuring Soleil Academy continues to provide high-quality learning opportunities and services for every scholar.
